Our Mission

Founded in 2009, Grassroot Givers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Albany.  We make a connection between the needs in our community and those with resources to share.  Our organization is comprised of two main programs: the Community Store and the Book Project, and supports individuals, agencies, schools and nonprofit programs in the Capital District.

Community Store Program

We receive donated, like-new home essentials (dishware, appliances, clothing for all seasons and occassions, etc.) and redistribute them to underserved individuals and families through our partner agencies. Click here to learn more!

Book Project

We promote the growth of home libraries by receiving and distributing like-new books. We work with teachers and faculty of the Albany City School District, and partner with HATAS on the Albany Feed-and-Read program. To date, we've given over 250,000 free books! Click here to learn more!

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

We are committed to environmental sustainability:

• We share thousands of donations (housewares, clothing, and books) with those in need

• We upcycle materials that come our way; for example, our vintage encyclopedias became a bookshelf

• We pass along items to other nonprofits, which keeps them out of the landfills
